Re: 04.10.2022 / GPLRACER 65 / Race 16 / Long Beach 1977 (longb77)
I'm VERY pleased to have finished a race at last. With walls everywhere, also pleasantly surprised. Managed to get through without touching the walls once, which seems amazing given how many times I normally go off-track in races. Perhaps being boxed-in like that helps to focus the mind.
Today was the most consistent I've driven in a race. Normally I'm at/near bottom of the Race consistency Table. This time I was around mid-table. Great!
Early on, I had Dave behind me for a lap or two after he'd had a spin. But his pace was pretty hot. Once he got by me, then Philippe ahead, he was off like the Road Runner - thought you said you were having trouble with pace at this track, Dave?? Managed to keep up with Philippe for a number of laps, before he found some extra speed & shot ahead. Not much lapping action, with only 3 cars going past me. Third one was Stefan, who was flying I thought, keeping up with the super-fast Yannick & Uli. Then you got past Uli for 2nd. Good work.
Congrats to podiums & thanks to everyone, especially Admins for organizing.

Fun track with these cars.
The fight for pole was a close one. Piero edged out by one tenth.
From the beginning I tried putting the pressure on, but couldn't find the opportunity to get the past. I seem to lose some terrain on the straights, but win a lot more through the corners.
Piero's car seemed a bit tailhappy while I tried to be very tight on getting the line right.
Seven laps in I got my shot through the first couple of corners to get past him. But at this first hairpin, I got hit from behind, at which Patrick got by. I lost only a little bit of time so I could try repeat the same feat with him. Only the very next lap his engine blows up at which I had free reign to drive to the finish.
Congratulations to all finishers, well done to Uli & Stefan for the podium.
See you next race.

Qualified 8th with a time I was pretty content with.
The race was quite action packed, for the whole distance I had someone in front and/or behind, so there never was a dull moment.
There were so many events, that instead of listing all, I'll just mention the Mandatory Spin (naturally), one hit on the tyre wall and a couple of lighter nudges.
Got only some small damage to my car, so finished 9th - could have been better or much worse.
Thanks to all for participating, congrats to finishers, sorry for the DNF's, and thank you to the organisers!

We did it at the same time, last corner lap 27

The only incident for me, but on the other hand I was slow in race.
Congratulations to the podium and thanks for GPLRacer for organizing.

Oh yeah, if I count that too, then two hits on the tyres.

I was lucky there to get going the quickest from behind you, after your and Thierry's cars touched.

That was great fun yesterday with you guys.

I have never raced in Long Beach before, but I guessed that it would be worth it - nice REAL track!

Already the practice was exciting. Unfortunately I was not in the best physical condition - like other colleagues too - get well soon - a race doctor would not have let me start in any case. My start was not bad but Yannick and Piero made directly fullpower. I had to let them go, my tires were much too cold at that time and already a little later I let Patrick go too, who seemed simply faster.
My racesetup was not very well. The left front tyre was to cold and the rear right was much to hot. Also the water temperature went high to 124ºC so I had to shift much earlier …
Anyway I could control the lead to Stefan until my 1st spin when Stefan and Paul passed me. When Stefan spins I passed him and last but not least my 2nd spin with 2 laps to go brought the decision. THX to you Stefan

I would like to thank the lapped drivers Jan, David and Philippe. It has cost me no time, big compliment and also again to Pawel in practice. It‘s great that here so many colleagues have a good overview and an early look into here mirrors!

Great to have had not many accidents in a full grid on such a narrow and short track. I hope you all had as much fun as I had.
Thanks to the GPL-Racers!

Congratulations Yannick, Stefan and Uli.
Although having Covid I had a nice race, Thanks guys!
From 13 to 4e to 7e
Downside not enough fuel to finish the race full throttle.
I slowed down and had to let go Paul and let me be overtaken by Bastian and Laurent.
Congrats Stefan for leading the championship.
Thanks admins for the organisation, cu next one.

Second race in a row with fuel problems. Just take that extra gallon and you are save.
