Maybe the replays look jerky to you because you view at a refresh rate other than 36 hz or multiple of ?

For me they look smooth. Maybe G-sync is helping.

If you do not have G-sync maybe 144 hz would work best as it is 4x36

My monitor is set to 144 Hz.
I have this one:
32"/80cm LC-Power LC-M32-QHD-144-C-V2 Curved Black
https://www.lc-power.com/en/product/pc- ... -144-c-v2/
It uses FreeSync.

As I had written I get the little stutters already when I watch the 36 FPS server replay in GPL (no 60 FPS patch activated). Before I do any video capturing or editing.

I also thought 4 x 36 FPS = 144 Hz should work for GPL.

When I set the monitor in Windows display settings to 59.951 Hz (I can not choose 60 Hz) it seems like I have fewer stutters watching a 36 FPS server replay.
But it still seems not that smooth like it was on my old PC and monitor.

While racing I can not see any difference all runs smooth.

It might be interesting to test if a 60 FPS server replay would run smooth on GPL with a 60 FPS patch activated.

What is the capture rate of the video ?

60 FPS.
I think I had also tried 144 Hz.
I can't remember exactly what I have already tested. In any case, it was a lot.

But I think we are on the right track with the Hz and FPS settings.

By the way, with 59.951 Hz the font in the GPL menu is blurred and the GPL menu extends over the whole monitor, with 144 Hz the font in the GPL menu is pin-sharp, but the image is cut off at the sides.

Yes I think it is the capture rate that needs to match 36 or multiple to run smooth for a replay from a 36 fps race.

Paul, I have moved our posts of roswell into here.

The Latest RACE VIDEO is
16.11.2021 / GPLRACER 65 / Race 19 / Le Mas Du Clos (lemas)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4xHfBrNwQQ

This one was captured with Bandicam (payware), cut, edited & produced with Kdenlive (freeware).
Monitor set to 144 Hz, Bandicam records with 36 FPS, Nvidia Inspector max framerate 36 FPS.
Meanwhile I have tried all vriatons on Hz and FPS settings.

Jake now had this idea:
Have you tried using the “v3” version of the no letterbox patch? I believe this might improve performance in replays because it no longer has to render some of the text
I haven`t tried the no letterbox patch yet, because I want to display the driver name and other data.
But a performance hit because the text has to be rendered is a good point. It is a known to be a problem for some with Nvidia cards.
I will give it a try, just to see if it has an effect.

quote PM of GPLaps

That's exactly what it was! Thanks for the tip!
It is indeed the problem GPL has with rendering text.

The funny thing is, why it didn't occur to me that it could be the texts, is that during online races I have absolutely no problems when text messages are written, probably my new PC is so strong that it has no effect. But during a replay with the normal black bars at the top and bottom showing a lot of text, it has an effect (jerking) no matter how strong the PC is.

Now when I capture a GPL replay with the 77Dv3 No Letterbox patch (or just watch it without capturing) I have absolutely no judder! No matter whether I use OBS Studio or Bandicam to capture. I assume that it doesn't matter whether I capture at 144 Hz or 60 Hz. I still have to test that.

However, with the 77Dv3 No Letterbox Patch, I no longer have any information at the top for the number of laps, position, lap time, speed, etc., because the black bar at the top is missing.
At least the lower black bar still shows the driver's name on which the replay is currently fixed (next to the replay menu).

Well, before I produce jerky race videos, I'd rather leave out the black bar above with the race information than have it not run at all.

RACE VIDEO
30.11.2021 / GPLRACER 65 / Race 20 / Cognac Airfield 1967 (cognac)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCq9raGlp7w

RACE VIDEO
07.12.2021 / GPLRACER 55 / Race 08 / Monza 10k (monza10k)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOWRgmtGgQw

These videos are now captured using the 77Dv3 No Letterbox patch, which removes the black bar on top of the screen.

When I do this, I no longer have stuttering when viewing a GPL replay. Apparently, the stuttering was caused by the text in the upper black bar (number of laps, position, lap time, speed, etc.). Unfortunately, this information is gone, but I have not yet found a solution other than removing the bar with the text information with the 77Dv3 No Letterbox patch.

To compensate for the missing information, I have added the race history (which can easily be exported as a text file from GPL Replay Analyzer) as scrolling text at the right side of the screen.
What do you think of this? Good, or better leave it out?

I also tried using the freeware text-to-speech programme "Balabolka" to create an MP3 file of the race history of the text file, which is then read out by a computer voice. It works, but on the one hand it doesn't sound very varied in the long run and is annoying, and on the other hand the text is read out faster than the race takes, even if I slow down the reading out.
So I came up with the idea of displaying the course of the race as scrolling text at the edge of the screen, which runs more or less at the same time as the race time.

I spent many hours trying to find a solution for the stuttering (different programmes for capturing, different capturing settings, etc. etc.), but it wasn't because of that, because the stuttering was already there when watching a GPL replay.
Finally, GPLaps (thanks!) gave me the tip that it could possibly be the text, because there have been problems with chat texts during races in the past.

Hi Stefan,

I noticed the text in the video and thought, that is cool. It should be insync with the action on screen or a few second slower, and that could be difficult. Did you ever think about a gpl-tv image on screen. Don't know if that is even possible.

Never mind, keep up the good work. It adds something possitive to GPLRACER.

Greetings, Marcel
